The eagle bone whistle, a sacred religious musical instrument used by Native Americans, is made from the long wing bones of both the American bald eagle, and the American golden eagle for Native American religious ceremonies. Eagle bone whistles are considered extremely powerful spiritual objects by American Indians.
Eagle bone whistles produce a series of high pitched notes which are reminiscent of the cry of an eagle. Any part of the Bald Eagle should be treated with all respect one has…
ballerfella,I agree with you on everything, perhaps you’re right, matter of fact I know that you are right,I know that many a people have been blessed by not only my dancing, but many other great dancers that are out there,we dancers, dance for the people,or at least that’s what i believe any way,or have been taught.
May you and your family be blessed at all of the pow-wows and ceremonies that you attend in your lives.
A-HO
truly, traditionaldancer!
we can eat the fat, drink the sweet, gather and have a good time…but we must never forget those for whom nothing has been prepared…the hungry, crippled, and poverty stricken.
im sure your dancing has blessed more people than you will ever know! have a good one, man!
OK I will take back what I said about the cameras being on and hats on as well, that comment seems to have made other people upset and I wish to say that I am sorry.
I was in the wrong, like I have been in the past, other people have left comments and I have read them and now I feel ashamed for my words, please enjoy this video and other ones like it,I am in agreement,if someone could not be there to witness this pow-wow or other pow-wows,this is a great way for them to be part of it
Instead of flooding this video with criticism why can’t we just enjoy the fact that ALL of these traditions are alive for ALL of our tribes? As a Lakota wiyan, I am glad that this drum was honored in this way, and In this day and age of technology, I am glad that there is a historical record of this honoring for these young men! No disrespect, but geeez, don’t go on YouTube to lecture, go up to the people you want to shame in person. Dont put them on blast for the world to see.
you see the guys in the video, the ones who are videoing? You want to ask them if it’s okay to video? You want to ask them if they know “the rules?”
You can have ceremony where you don’t have videos, you just have to say it up front.
Pray for each other, pray for a better life. Don’t think you know what creator wants.
Why are you the one pointing the finger? Who nominated you?
well at any pow-wow that i have ever danced at,any cameras that were not shut off when a whistle or fan went to the drum, the dancer that was filmed had the decision whether or not the camera was taken from the person or kept
no disrespect but im glad i kept my camera here! this, in no way, dishonors any one. my brother is also a whistle carrier….i asked him about this, and he said laughing “thats a bunch of bologna bro. the world needs to see more of this. its not just for people WHO made it to that powwow…but for those, less fortunate who couldn’t make it. your camera rolling makes them able to partake of this blessing. awesome that NC honored that whistle. he may have had a breakthrough or sumpm.”

true those around the drum did,but some of the people standing around filming the drummers didn’t remove their covers(hats) and didn’t stop filming either after they were told that there was a whistle on the drum,(NOTICE) the one taping the drummers didn’t even shut off their camera
mcgilvery80,to answer you,yes all recorders of any kind are suppose to be turned off, plus ALL hats with NO EAGLE FEATHERS in them are suppose to be on,to record at that time is VERY DISHONORING to the whistle carrier,I am a men s traditional dancer and i am an EAGLE WHISTLE carrier,SO as I said,YES ALL RECORDERS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE TURNED OFF AND HATS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE ALL OFF WHEN A WHISTLE CARRIER WHISTLES A DRUM
I’d be just as proud as you are!! Passing on tradition like this is amazing to see, because a lot of the respect for it isn’t being passed down these days. Lovin’ it! =)
perhaps its best to shut eyes and just listen then nothing is seen and no harm done- love and respect

Even tho they didn’t shut the camera off… you have to note that all the men immediately took of their hats in respect…. Not everything is bad :p

Im no native american scholar or nothing like that but arent the recordings suppose to stop when the carrier whistles the group?
hell yea that lil man can jam
All the hats without feathers should be taken off too!! I see a few recorders/spectators that pay no mind to that either. =
I’d be just as proud as you are!! Passing on tradition like this is amazing to see, because a lot of the respect for it isn’t being passed down these days. Lovin’ it! =)
