Is this article about srtong fathers? About Indian women getting more opportunities than men? About standing up for veterans at powwows? About fatherhood? About the need for powwows? If it is about srtong fathers, the importance of fatherhood and stuff like that, I completely agree. On the other hand, if it is about the need for powwows, I would mention that the time we spend on powwows comes at the expense of time we devote to protecting other aspects of our cultures (e.g. knowledge of plants, languages, making cradles, surviving in the wild, etc etc). Every powwow is nearly the same. We spend so much time preparing regalia and practicing for powwows that we neglect specific aspects of tribal culture in favor of generic powwows. And that does not seem very healthy.Likewise, if the article talks about standing up to honor veterans at powwows, I would like to point out there is an immense difference between our REAL warriors who would stake themselves to the ground to protect their land and families to the military veterans of today. The former definitely deserve immense respect and honor and my hats off to them. The latter need to be reminded that millions of indigenous peoples in Godforsaken parts of the world have been killed directly or indirectly through their actions and that these wars serve to benefit only oil companies, military companies and other capitalistic interests of the colonial government.
