Daryl Coley is an American Gospel singer. A native of California, Coley was born in Berkley, California in 1955 and raised in Oakland, California where he spent the bulk of his developmental years influenced equally by his upbringing in the African-American church and his vocalist mother’s love for Gospel, classical and jazz music. In his teenage years, he went through vocal and instrumental training (learning clarinet and teaching himself piano) in school bands and regional choirs up until 1977, when Coley went on to perform with the Hawkins Family. As a singer with Edwin Hawkins and later a songwriter and musical director for Tramaine Hawkins. Rev. (Pastor) Daryl Coley, an outstanding vocalist. A maestro at best. He put his “ALL” (uniqueness, style, cleverness) into his singing. He ministers with such an anointing and zest for Jesus. He is my favorite male gospel singer. He can jumped octaves like no other. The Lord gave him a “style” all his own. God bless you Rev. Coley and May Heaven shine upon. Thanks for the post “Artistincorporated”.
In the 70′s Daryl was highlighted via the Hawkins family. In the 80′s he was featured soloist on 8 of the 10 albums via James Cleveland’s G.M.W.A. In the 80′s & 90′s via the Stellar Awards; Bobby Jones;& Azusa,.he became Gospel’s most beloved soloist. In the millineum he is revered & greatly respected; but i don’t believe he’s ever been awarded other than the James Cleveland award 2010 Stellars and 2005 Gospel Hall of Fame induction with Vanessa Bell. He has outsung them all,.and still can.
Nah, I do believe Daryl was underrated. Ask 50 people to list 5 sings by Daryl Coley, and I bet they can’t. Now ask those same 50 people to list 5 Kirk Franklin Songs…that could list 10. For all the work that he’s done in Christ, very few people know of him, nor has he been awarded much of anything business-wise. Trust me, because everytime I tell people who my fav ALL-TIME singer is…they don’t even know who I’m talkin’ about. SMH
who says daryl was underated? this man was and is at the top of his form and has stood there for over twenty years. i ranks among the greats like james cleveland, andre crouch, mahalia jackson, clara ward, the hawkins family, timothy wright, mattie moss clark and her daughters etc. etc. underrated? i know thousands of underrated gospel singers who even stand above those named. but you only know about them marginally or not at all. daryl is one of the greatests gospel voices in the 20th century.

He is certainly not underated by the one to whom he is praising.
I believe Jesus is well pleased .
