Educational film with sociological focus on Two-Spirits in American Indian society both past and present. All materials used were done so in accordance with the US Fair Use policy or are freely licensed. This was a college sociology project. Feel free to share with proper attribution. Please be respectful in comments. Thank you. Update: As a commenter pointed out, gender identity is not socially constructed, but is innate. This is true. I was probably thinking of outward gender expression as being socially constructed when I made this.
Thank you for posting this. We lose far too many LGBT to suicide and murder. If this video saves even one life, you will have done the world a great service.
You are absolutely right! Thank you so much for pointing that out. Probably at the time, I was thinking of the social perception of the outward identity as being socially constructed. But yes, outward gender expression and inward gender identity are two different things, and gender identity is innate. Cheers!
“Gender identity = socially constructed” As a trans woman I can tell you this is not true, what you probably meant was gender expression such as someones expresses themselves along feminine, masculine, both or neither to varying extents. Gender identity is what one feels innately what their sex/gender should be such as why transsexual people feel the need to transition, not because they’re act feminine but because they know deep down that they’re female. Gender identity is not learned.
This is a great creation, you did a very good job. I learned a couple things myself from this and I am a Two Spirit person. The Fred Martinez doc was really good too, it also had a lot of valuable info but of course it’s also heart breaking what happened. Chi Miigwech for helping to revive Indigenous world view. )
Amazing.
Native Americans truly accepted everyone for who they are. Without prejudice. They accept all things good and bad.
It’s not a wonder the rich, white, “Christians” wanted to be done with them. They would have taught us all how to live in peace.
A soldier was given the job of hunting for buffalo. To help him, he hired an Indian Scout. The two of them set off on their journey to find buffalo. After riding awhile, the Indian gets off his horse, puts his ear to the ground and says, “Humm, buffalo come”. The soldier scans the area with his binoculars, but sees nothing. He is confused and says to the Indian, “I do not see anything. How do you know buffalo come?”
The Indian replies, “Ear sticky”.
I had never thought of this reaching out so far, but if it does and helps others, it is a wonderful thing. Thank you. : )
