dude, Quicksilver is as damn old as I am, but thanx for reminding me, we would probably like other music, like the Dead, and the Airplane, and the Incredible String Band, and could maybe even enjoy a beer or a spliff together, who knows?
Yes, that’s how I first heard the song, back in like 90′ when I got a cassette bootleg- which I still have- of a show of theirs from like ’68… some deadhead gave it to me. I cranked it a lot. The guitar sound of Cippolina’s and the singing of Dino make it very distinctive.
sweet little c… yeah right. This song doesnt have to be exagerated at all if addictions bad enough, translates to morphine just like any other opiate, for example heroine and i recognize my own opiate adiction in it which im now free from thank God.
Good point! I always thought so myself so I sing it as a lament to narcotics addiction in general, kinda thing. I fancy it was written as such to begin with.
This is the best codeine randition in my opinion. Very nice guitar play and some original lyrics.
But what always bugged me about this song is that it greatly exagerates the drama of a codeine addiction…
Sweet little c ain’t that harmfull.
yeah she wrote codine, donovan didn’t. courtney love sings it too and so did janis joplin.
I always thought donovan wrote universal soldier but buffy wrote that one too! outstanding – thx 4 the post
Thanks a lot! This song isn’t about “chords” but a kind of droning gutiar style with a moving bass line which requires both E strings tuned down to D. Then put a capo wherever you feel comfortable singing it. The main “chord” is a like an open “D” chord. The rest would be a guitar lesson.
I originally thought this was Donovan’s song..its actually the song that got me hooked on Donny. I am going to have to check out some more of Buffy…great post thanks
LSD? Haven’t done that since like, 92 or something when I finally got too high and screamed at Jerry from the front row of a Jerry Garcia Band show in the woods in CA. He just shrugged and kept tuning. Didn’t know Donovan did this song. Cool, I’ll look for it.
that’s what ya said then, friend, would like to know where ya are now. hope you’re walkin in the light.
How about a beer and a spliff and some psychedelia?
beautiful
