The African American Trailblazers honors the African American contribution to the American story and the significant accomplishments of twelve (12) heroic African Americans in areas such as the arts, sciences, politics, education, and business. The African American Trailblazers was conceived as part of Americas 400th anniversary celebration, the documentary and exhibition represent the collaborative effort of several community, regional government, and corporate partners to highlight the historic contributions of African Americans in the Colonial Period, Revolutionary War, Civil War, Reconstruction, and 20th Century that positively changed the Commonwealth, our country, and the world. The documentary vignettes were directed by Emmy Award winner producer Eric A. Futterman and tell the stories of 12 historic African American Trailblazers and describe other notable achievements since the first Africans arrived in Jamestown in 1619. It features re-enactments, music, historical photos, paintings and interviews with historical experts and African American Trailblazer award recipients Dr. Maya Angelou, Mr. Raymond Boone, Dr. Wyatt T. Walker and others.
A lot of people get fired for being intolerant of others the civil rights movement was not enacted just to protect black people but all people especially those in the minority include the disabled it tried not to leave anyone out. I believe the problems we are having today with race is a system that is based on white supremacy and sterotypes because blacks are lawyers, judges, supreme court justices, astronauts, police and first lady of the United States. We have contributed to Ameica.
There is a whole world of black people and not all of them are in the black part of town or surcum to the same beef about do you blacks like this or that. When someone of another race ask a black person a question its not that they know much about blacks other than what they have heard and scene on television. Lets get real biased starts at home then it makes its way to supremacist school system with books and its copied on college campuses and acted out in the real world or work place.
Prejudice is different from racist it means that a person find reason to avoid something and in this case the very existence of black people. This attitude or response to blacks overlapse into college and follow them into the work place thus we have a whole world of disfunctional people thinking that statistics and sterotypes is what constitutes a black person. Anger turns into barriers which blacks have to face later in life all because people think they know black people.
Non-white student neglect additional history of blacks in America and their contribution so when others that are like them speak negatively about blacks they tend to go alone. Then we get the whole spill of tolerance again and denial of differences so no one wins in the end. The only way to combat ignorances is with education. All books should include the contribution of African American and people of color so that at an early age student don’t group up to be prejudice.
There is reason for blacks to revisit this in public schools because black history is taught to all American children merely in slavery. Slavery is the introduction of blacks contribution of freedom but defy contribution of blacks in America. Beyond that we get education on civil rights because tolerance of people that are different is important and fair. There is a disconnect after reading about slavery and then teaching students about civil rights.
Here is a piece on the purpose of Black History month. Lets not get it twisted. Carter G. Woodson had a vision to tell the world of the contributions we have made that make this nation great.
Baba Carter Godwin Woodson is a courageously gifted scholar who taught so much of our past.
Despite we suffered 400 years of injustice, Baba Woodson taught us that we came from a land that not only was the birth of us, but our life and energy.
Baba Woodson taught us, that once we are connected with Egypt, Timbuktu, Ghana, Songhay, Sudan etc; then we are with our own selves.
I like this peace I guss know one like the truth. We where always making contrbution well before America. I just hate that my people are so brainwash some of us can’t go back
